Western Europe Printer Volume Report Q1 2023
In the first quarter of 2023, Western European printer volumes were 4.1 million units, down 4.3% year-on-year.
Although overall volumes declined, laser printer achieved a 14.5% increase in the quarter. Colour laser printers grew 37.1% year-on-year, while black and white laser printers grew 0.4% year-on-year.
Inkjet printer, on the other hand, declined by 11.5% year-on-year. The number of colour inkjet printers shipped fell by 11.8% year-on-year, while black and white inkjet printers grew by 77.2% year-on-year, but accounted for less than 20,000 units.
In terms of brands, HP maintained its market leadership position with a market share of 38.8%. Epson's market share increased by 0.3% year-on-year to 20.7%. Canon shipments declined year-on-year, while Brother shipments increased year-on-year.
By country, Germany saw overall shipment growth of 15.4% in the first quarter of 2023, with both the inkjet and colour laser segments showing year-on-year growth. Inkjet printer shipments increased by 15.7 percent year-on-year, while laser printer shipments grew by 14.7 percent.
Shipments to France fell by 10.8% in the quarter. Inkjet printers fell by 15.7%, but laser printer shipments achieved an increase of 7.5%. This included a 19.6% increase in colour laser printers.
The UK had a weaker quarter, with total shipments down 16%, with the inkjet segment down 24% year-on-year and the laser segment up 24.6%.
Italy achieved a 4.8% growth in the quarter, mainly due to a 13% increase in laser printer shipments. Inkjet printer shipments were essentially flat, up 0.3 per cent.
Laser printer shipments in Spain increased by 15.4%, but inkjet printer shipments fell by 13.9% year-on-year and overall shipments fell by 5.2%.
